The title race is quite taking shape and while things are going fine for some teams, some others would wish for better luck. More interesting results were recorded as Arsenal added to Sunderland's misery with a 4-1 romp in Saturday's early kick-off while Manchester United cursed their rotten luck as they were frustrated by Tom Heaton and company with Mourinho receiving marching orders as well as Ander Herrera. However, Pep was able to watch his team end a six game winless run with a 4-0 rout of Westbrom.
In other results, Tottenham were unable to defeat Leicester at White Hart Lane while Liverpool prevailed at Selhurst Park and Chelsea picked up a win at Southampton.
Below are some of the headlines and points to consider from the weekend;
MORE MISERY FOR SUNDERLAND
The Stadium of light was not so bright on Saturday as Arsenal enjoyed a 4-1 rout over David Moyes' hapless black cats. It was yet another afternoon of disappointment for the home side however, the Gunners took a further step as the title race tightens up. Arsene Wenger's men are joint leaders along side Manchester City and Liverpool but occupy the second position by virtue of goal difference.
However, it is a very worrying start for Sunderland which has been left with just two paltry points from ten games. They escaped relegation narrowly last term but are looking doomed already. David Moyes has tried to bring in some new faces but they seem not to have gelled and things are not running smoothly. It is their worst start to a season and one can only worry about the manager's position. He has to find a solution and quick.
BURNLEY FRUSTRATE DEVILS
Manchester United's season met a new low on Saturday as Burnley dug out for their first point at Old Trafford in a goalless stalemate. The Red Devils who were pummeled 4-0 at Chelsea were out to set things straight but met with a resolute Clarets side and a goalkeeper in imperious form. Tom Heaton was equal to every shot sent towards his goal and when he finally got beaten, the post had his back has United were repelled with every foray. It got messier when Mourinho was sent to the stands after vociferously contesting the referee's decision not to award a penalty when Matteo Darmian seemed to have been fouled in the box by Jon Flanagan, and Ander Herrera was also sent off for a second booking. All kinds of chances were created and missed as Burnley stood firm. Ibrahimovic confirmed Manchester United's ill- luck when he lifted the ball over the bar at the back post in the closing stages.
United sit in eighth place and are already eight points adrift of leaders Mancity. It is not the best of starts as United are not performing at a top level. Ibrahimovic's goal barrel seems to have run dry as he recorded some shocking misses in the last few matches while Paul Pogba is not also performing. Much more is being desired at the moment.
SPURS HELD BY CHAMPIONS
It seemed to be a routine for defending champions Leicester to lose gallantly in the premier league prior to their UCL clashes. They have been to Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea with heavy defeats to account for but were able to snuff out a point from Tottenham as Claudio Ranieri is yet to suffer defeat at the hands of the North Londoners. Ahmed Musa got his second Leicester goal of the season as he equalised early in the second half after Vincent Jansen had scored a first half penalty.
It is an Important result for Leicester as they get their first away point of the campaign. The foxes have not enjoyed a bright start but were in good form on Saturday. Tottenham however, would be disappointed. They remain unbeaten though but have been patchy of recent. Perhaps, Harry Kane's absence is a factor but Pochettino's men need to improve.
CITY SNAP WINLESS RUN
The jury had already been set out for Pep Guardiola as his team that romped to 10 consecutive wins at the start began to wobble. However, the citizens gave a big response with a 4-0 rout of Tony Pulis' Westbrom at the Hawthorns. It is an incredible result for the league leaders as not many sides get things comfortably at Hawthorns. The win was very important for the team as the title race is fast taking shape. Sergio Aguero also put paid to his scoreless run with a well taken brace while summer recruit, Ilkay Gundogan added a brace of his own in a scintillating display from the visitors.
LIVERPOOL OUTSCORE PALACE
The Reds were able to conjure a 4-2 win over Crystal Palace but would do well to take hid to some salient factors that may undermine their title progress. Jurgen Klopp's men started like they normally would and got ahead when Emre Can struck home from an Alberto Moreno's cross but two minutes latter, disaster struck at the back when Dejan Lovren inexplicably setup James McArthur for an equaliser, when he miss kicked a pass from Matip and the midfielder headed past the onrushing Karius in Liverpool's goal. Palace too was guilty of atrocity at the back when Dejan Lovren restored Liverpool's lead but again, the Croatian was at fault when McArthur headed home another equaliser. However, Matip restored the lead with the help of desperately horrendous defending from Palace before half time and Roberto Firminho rounded things off after the break.
Although it is a good win for Liverpool, they should be worried about their leaky rear. A run of just one cleansheet in ten Premier League matches is an appalling record. Moreover, majority of the goals shipped have come from comical errors. The Reds should work on this as it may affect their title push.
CHELSEA CONTINUE FINE FORM
The blues recorded their fourth consecutive win with a 2-0 win at Southampton on Sunday. Antonio Conte's men who were shipped out of the League Cup by Westham on Wednesday returned with a good performance as Eden Hazard and Diego Costa supplied the goals to earn the points. The blues occupy the fourth position but are only one point behind the leading trio of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.
After losing to Arsenal and Liverpool, Conte seems to have found a formula for Chelsea as the blues are yet to concede a goal in their last four EPL games and have scored 12 goals. Diego Costa leads the scoring chart as he has eight goals to his name while Hazard has bested his tally from last term with his strike against the Saints marking his fifth goal of the season.
